AI is rapidly transforming the way finance teams work.

This session will demonstrate how AI can enhance everyday finance tasks, from boosting personal productivity, through smarter use of Excel and AI, to accelerating report writing and checking while maintaining accuracy and consistency.

The session will also explore how AI can be applied to process optimisation, using debt recovery as a practical example streamlining workflows improving effectiveness as well as tender response management and evaluation support.

Dan Hookham is the Founder and CEO of Component6, an Australian AI coaching organisation specialising in helping local governments adopt AI safely, responsibly and effectively. Over the past several years, Dan has worked with councils across Australia to build AI capability through education, governance, strategy development, Microsoft Copilot enablement, and practical implementation programs. Having engaged with more than 300 local government organisations, he focuses on helping councils improve productivity, strengthen decision-making, enhance community engagement, and realise the benefits of AI while managing associated risks.

Join us for FinPro’s first virtual CFO Roundtable, to be held at midday on Friday, 9 October 2026.

This interactive forum will explore different approaches to council budget development, including top-down, bottom-up and zero-based budgeting. The session will feature several short council presentations sharing practical experiences and lessons learned, followed by smaller breakout discussions where participants can exchange ideas, challenges and good practice.

Presentations will include Horsham Rural City Council’s experience with zero-based budgeting and forecasting, Melbourne City Council's top down approach and Casey City Council's experience with financial analysis, stakeholder engagement and change management.
